Refashion: The blue skirt & burgundy cape

Hi everyone! I want to thank you all for the encouraging comments on my last post, thank you so much! Today I have a refashion and a tailoring post. The first one is this cape I thrifted during the summer. I loved everything about it except the length, it was a few inches too long. Since I didn't want to ruin it I took it to my mom and she helped me shorten it. I wore it to school today and realized that maybe taking my lunch in a basket (which I do) while wearing a cape is not a good idea. Oh well, I've been called little red riding before (twice).
Before
 After
Doesn't look much of a difference but I shortened it about 4 inches, now it hits on my knees.

The second thing I wanted to show you is this skirt I thrifted 3 years ago. I was planning on doing my regular full skirt, but then I found this pattern and since peplums are coming back it seemed like a good idea to try it. The skirt was fairly easy to make, but the pattern does run a bit big.
Before
After
Please ignore the silliness, I didn't know how to pose without my hands getting in the way.
Peplum
This is how I wore it to work, can you tell it was super windy outside?
Shirt: Gap
Belt: vintage
Skirt: Refashioned by me
Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo
Cardigan: Ralph Lauren

Last but not least I wanted to thank Beth from Chic Envelopments for featuring me on her blog. Thank you so much Beth!

Beautiful skirt! I've been reluctant to try the peplum look, since I don't need extra width at that part of me, but this is super-flattering, not poufy or ruffly, the looks I think of when I read the word "peplum". I'll be looking up this pattern, for sure. As always, great job bringing out the hidden gem in your thrifted finds.

I love the cape, though it can be tough to pull of a red cape with out the little red comments, haha.

Wow, I love the skirt. Is it velvet? It looks like that in the before picture. I'm majorly obsessed with that material at the moment. I really like the design, I feel inspired to make a similar one myself.

I have failed posting under my name. So I continue being anonymous.
I wanted to say that this is the most beautiful skirt I have ever seen! By the way these colours are colours of Estonian flag! Blue-black and white, just like Your outfit! :) I love it!
I´m sorry about my bad english as it is not my native language.

I have thought about blogging as well....well maybe one day, when I´m done with my Uni. I´m 32 and still student :)) Hehehe. By the way, I used to work as a kindergarten teacher as well, but I work with children with special needs. As I study special needs education.
Keep on blogging! Can´t wait to see new redesigns.

...and from You I´ve learned one thing: to wear only what suits You! There are so many nice clothes in flea markets. But it is important not to buy clothes which don´t match with Your body-type!
From now on I give away all clothes which are not good with my body-type. As I have same body-type as Yours I have lots of tips what to wear..
Thank You for blogging your great ideas! :)

I love what you did with the skirt! Just fabulous! I am ashamed to admit that I've been thinking that peplums are stupid and that they don't suit anyone. Well, I guess I was wrong! :)

Oh what a difference that 4in made! I Love your new cape! I love it even more that you've been called Little Red Riding Hood (Twice),and you don't let it bother you. I've been called Minnie Mouse when wearing a Vintage Blouse that is Red with big White Polka Dots. :o)

Very cute! I wouldn't have recognized that as the same skirt. Your cape turned out good too. I love it when just a shorten does the trick.
