Shades of gray

Last night I watched a documentary called Waiting for Superman, it's very good I highly recommend it, it's about 5 students who are falling between the loopholes because of the education system. It broke my heart but it also made me realize how many kids fall behind because of bad teachers. Bad teachers are out there, lots of them, I know we've all encountered them by personal experience or by our own children. I've met bad teachers and I've worked with them too. I often wonder why on earth they chose this career. Thank God there are good teachers too, I still remember all of my great teachers.
Today I had to take half day off from work, that's why the good lightning.

Vintage scarf

Today is one of those days when I don't feel like doing anything but I do feel like eating everything. My sweet tooth is screaming for some cheesecake. I love cheesecake! My mouth is watering and my stomach is growling so I'm off to eat something good. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I had to add the tights, it's windy outside and I feel cold.

Preppy Look

Finally Friday everybody! I woke up early for some odd reason so I have plenty of time to post today's outfit, eat breakfast (sings: the most important meal of the day) and relax while I listen to classical music. What a nice way to start the day. Today is going to be a great day, I'll try to remember to smile more,  give someone a hug and give a nice, true compliment. ^_^
What are you going to do to make this day a great day?

Cleopatra Necklace

Hello beautiful ladies, hope your day was great, it's almost the end of the week. Today I decided to try the dress over a skirt, I must say I loved it. I love this pretty F21 dress I bought many years ago, however it is too short to wear by itself so I decided to wear it over my skirt like so many modest fashionistas have done before. I also wore a beaded necklace I refashioned from a vintage dress, I didn't know whether the outfit would be too much for a work day but I still went with it. My friend told me she would call me Cleo short for Cleopatra. ^_^
The beads and sequins are in such great condition and they are pretty heavy.

Orange and black

Good day everybody! This morning I got this vintage jacket out of my coat closet and I discovered a little larva looking thing on it, Mr. Google said it was a moth, I had never seen moths but the tiny hole on this jacket led me to believe it was and sure enough I was right so now I have to find a way to get rid of them before they eat my vintage coats away. On another subject today we had a discussion at lunch about writing about work on blogs or facebook, I read about the teacher who was fired for writing about work on her blog last week. Too bad now I can't say how much I love to work at my school! Woops! I didn't write that.
I thrifted these shoes for $1.75 and I've had them over a year, the bad part is that this is the first time I'm wearing them.

Baby blue & Red

I've found out that whenever I make an impulse buy I can't sleep, last night was one of those nights, yesterday I went to Anthropologie and I bought a denim skirt, cute yes, but expensive, and because I don't know whether there will be teacher cuts in the district I don't want to overspend (which I have already done but that's not the point). Last night I tossed and turned until 5:30 a.m. when my alarm went off and it was time to go to work. Needless to say I went back today during lunch to return the skirt and tonight I hope I can sleep better. I love my new shoes though! I got them at Dillard's and they were 70% off, I can't say no to red shoes even though I got a mean nice/mean comment on red shoes at work.
A lady told me she loved my shoes BUT...her grandma always said women who wore red shoes were easy. I'm not a smarty mouth my mom always taught me "if you are not going to say something nice than don't say it at all." So I just smiled and kept working.

Do bad comments ruin your favorite wardrobe items? I've been known to stop wearing things because of bad comments but I don't think it will happen with these shoes.
My favorite vintage cameo necklace.
And my new old sweater, my friend at work told me she has some vintage scarfs to give me, I'm thrilled!

Pearl bib necklace tutorial

Hi ladies, today I have a pearl necklace tutorial, it seems I'm obsessed with bib necklaces because that's all I want to make, I guess it's because they are easy to make. I've been wanting a bib necklace with pearls on it I had all I needed so I got to work on it one boring Saturday evening.
This is what my bib necklace looked like in the end, I used two different tones of pearl beads just because and I actually like the way the darker pearls pop out.
Materials Needed
Pearl beads (or old pearl necklace)
Felt fabric
Ribbon
Thread & needle
Glue gun
Scissors
Step 1: Cut the shape of your bib necklace, I put the fabric against my chest to calculate how big I wanted the bib.
Step 2: Start attaching the pearls with thread and needle.
Here's how it looks from the back.
Step: 3 Stitch Ribbon to each end of the bib.
Note: Measure how long you want the ribbon to hang around your neck.
Step 4: Glue la little piece of felt to cover the ribbon stitches.

Step 5: Tie a little bow on the side with another piece of ribbon.
Hope you enjoy your new pearl bib necklace!

Sunday best: Ivory, black & khaki

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone had a restful weekend. Mine was pretty good, too short, I feel like I didn't get much done. Today after church we headed to my mom's house to have lunch, she cooks really good and after lunch I laid down on her couch and took a nap, while I was sleeping I felt so good I think I was smiling because I felt a sudden happiness in my heart.
I love black net tights, a long time ago they seemed too risky for me but I think they can look elegant and modest if you wear them with the right clothes and shoes.
I saw this girl with a great outfit, I wish I had taken my camera and photograph her, she looked very pretty and modest.

Flea Market Heaven

Today I went to the flea market, as I mentioned before it had been closed for 2 months and it was like being on a bad diet, I missed and yearned for the flea market to reopen. I dreamed of getting my fingers dirty going over their hundreds and thousands of vintage pin piles, but what I wanted the most was to go back for these two 1950's lockets that I could not buy last time that I visited. It was worth the wait, I found lots of great jewelry and an amazing 1940's cardigan with a peter pan collar.
Last time I was there the lady was asking $10 each this time she let me have them for $5 each.
At the same place I also got these two necklaces, I love this one because it has a little mirror in the back. This is the front: (I need to clean it)
This is the back:
And because I'm obsessed with cameos I could not leave this 1920's cameo necklace behind!
At another stand a teenager was so kind to find this pretty necklace for me, I was standing next to her when she found it, when she tossed it back in the pile I went for it and didn't let go.
I also bought this funky necklace, I might change the chain since it's too small and thin for such huge...err...what is that? It's made of aluminium or some sort of very light metal. Great statement necklace.
Then I called my mom and she told me she had been at a estate sale near my house so I headed that way, I only found these two things.
A little crocheted bow? Score!($2)
And an cabbage patch doll with her original shoes for $2. I'm going to sew a pretty dress and underwear for this red-headed beauty. Cabbage patch dolls have a special place in my heart since I had one I played with all the time when I was a little girl.
This is my sweater, $2 bucks.

2X1

Hi ladies and gents I hope your week was a good one, I'm so glad it's Friday and I'm finally home resting after a great dinner (Chili and cornbread). So a week ago I thrifted these Sperry Top Sider shoes for $15 bucks, almost new, great bargain. There was this young man following me around at the thrift store, for a moment I was feeling very good thinking to myself  "I still have my groove on", only after a while I realized that the young man wasn't after me but after these shoes, yeap he wanted them and was following me around to see if I would put them back hehe sorry that I had to break his little heart. Oh and yes they are men's shoes but that's okay I can handle that even if they make my feet look a bit wider.
