Getting ready for the Turkey

Hi ladies! I bet many are getting ready for Thanksgiving. Here are some goodies I have found recently but I just haven't had the chance to wear. First this vintage wool cape I bought at the Flea Market from the stance where I got my mustard coat. I love everything about it, it's perfect, the only thing I had to do was fix the lining a bit.
I bought this grandpa cardigan at the thrift store a few weeks ago, I found it in the men's section, it's made of acrylic and some of the original button were yellowish and broken so I replaced them, I think these buttons look way better on the cardigan, I also replaced the buttons on my mustard coat.
This gorgeous thing still has the tag, it was $3.99 at Goodwill, I bought it over the Summer and I just can't wait ti wear it over a crisp white oxford shirt. The sleeves are stained a bit but that's fine with me, the top is still in great condition and it's clean.
I was so excited to find these western shoes for only $2 dollars, I had been eyeing a newer version at Urban Outfitters but couldn't make myself pay so much for something I see often at thrift stores, unfortunately for me I had not seen them in my size until now. These are leather and made in Spain, perfect.
And last is this little pendant, I saw one at Mamushka Marie's etsy store and I wanted it so bad but it was sold, so I made a trip to the miniature section of my crafts store looking for a minnie teddy bear and guess what I found? The same mini sewing machine! I added a little bow and put it on a ring and now it's ready to wear on a chain.
Ladies I hope all of you have a wonderful time eating Turkey! Happy Thanksgiving!

Another Refashioned Favorite

Ladies I have spent the past 2 days cleaning my house and cleaning out my closet. If there is something that I really hate is having a messy house and overcrowded closets. So I took out anything that I had not worn, any clothes whose colors I don't like even though I liked the shape, fabric, etc. Out went any clothes that I felt like I had to wear just because they were hanging in my closet, any skirts "that fit but..." (any excuse goes here) and anything that I had attached a bad memory to. I have 3 bags going to Goodwill, 2 of them mine and 1 my son's. He really needs some clothes, his closet is practically empty, so after Goodwill I'm stopping by Old Navy to buy him some new clothes. Anyone excited about Thanksgiving? I just hope my family doesn't ask me to cook anything. I'm not a good cook but I'm a very good eater. ^_^I
In Mexico Thanksgiving is not celebrated (American Holiday) so till last week I never knew what the cranberry sauce was for! I didn't know if it was supposed to be eaten on it's own like a dessert or what. Finally my friend at work cleared me up on that (we never have it at home).

Last night I finally altered this skirt I love how it came out, please excuse the ugly gym clothes and socks and red shoes hahaha. As you can see I had already marked it and was about to cut it out when I suddenly remember to take a before picture.
I don't think I'm going to do Black Friday this year, I don't like overcrowded places and buying in a rush just doesn't seem that appealing to me, I will probably make a stop though to buy things for my son.

Style Inspiration

I love anything lace and that has a hint touch of romantic, the furry vest with the lace shirt are the perfect combination.

I know some of the hemlines are not very modest, but I'm always inspired by the outfits and think how I can pull off similar outfit with modest lengths.

This little boy is so cute, I want to grab his little cheeks and kiss them all over!
This gentleman looks totally like a gentleman and he even has leather gloves! His coat is amazing.

I'm obsessed with red shoes, I guess that's the Dorothy in me.

 This outfit is total perfection!

Capes are everywhere, yesterday I scored one at the Flea Market, can't wait to wear it soon.

I love little girls who look like... little girls not a mini version of their mother's outfits.

What a classic and refined style this beautiful lady has.

Another guy with great style, he even matched his socks and shirt!

The Red Hat

Hi ladies! I'm so excited to have next week off, that's another great thing about being a teacher, vacation breaks. Today we had a little party before school ended, I think we over did it with the sugar, but I'm glad we had the party a little before school ended, by the time we were got in line the children were hyper even my quiet one was walking and dancing her way home. You're welcome parents, pay back time for those Halloween days! hehe ^_^
I'm sure many of you remember your great teachers, but do you remember the mean, evil ones? I had a fifth grade teacher who didn't like me at all, or anyone for that matter, she always seemed to be in a bad mood and many times I saw her attitude towards me, she treated me like I was dumb just because I didn't speak much English.

Well, on Valentine's day my mom bought a cup for me to give to my teacher, I wanted to give it to the student-teacher in our class who was very nice, she was beautiful and had a beautiful singing voice but on my way to class that morning I changed my mind, I wanted Mrs. Davinson to like me, so instead of giving the cup to my nice teacher I gave it to Mrs. Davinson, she thanked me but seemed unexcited, I remember her look like I had given her more junk to put away. To her it was worthless, to me it was a lot because that's all my mother could afford, she worked 2 jobs and we could barely make it to the next month to pay the bills, but my mother didn't go running to the Welfare office (even though she could because both my sister and I are U.S. citizens) she has always thought to ask for Welfare is humiliating so we always lived on what she could provide for us, not more. Both my parents always taught us never to get something beyond what we could pay and never to borrow money and in any case we did we had to pay back immediately.

Anyways, 2 years ago when I was my school's Technology Coordinator we had a meeting and guess who was seating next to me? Old Mrs. Davinson, I don't think she recognized me, and to tell you the truth I didn't want her to, I really didn't feel like talking to her. No matter what my students give me, old toys, raggedy dolls, I always keep it because I know it means a lot to them, and whatever food they bring I eat it, sometimes I eat the apples when they can see me and they really like that I do, and if before lunch I forget my apple on the table, they make sure they remind me. Did you eve had a mean teacher?

I love my French look today, I got lots of compliments on my hat.

Grandpa's Coat

This is not my grandpa's coat, but it's a man's vintage wool coat, I like it anyways, it fits just right, it's roomy enough for extra layers and it's very clean.

I didn't meet my maternal grandfather he died way before my parents got married, but I did meet my paternal grandfather and I remember he liked my mom a lot, every time he spoke of her (after my parents split) he would start crying, in fact he cried for anything that had just a spec of sad, I loved my grandpa. He was a humble man, a milk man, and an alcoholic (thank God the only thing my dad got ending with holic is workaholic). We came from a very poor family, not American poor but Mexican poor, the government does not support anyone, you either work(if there is work) or you starve, school is not a right it's a luxury and things such as free school meals, welfare or free medical care are unheard of. People in Mexico are not divided by race, they are divided by how much money they have: high class, medium class, and low class.

Both sides of my parents families were low class that is until my mom and dad decided to change that and work hard to give us a better chance in life. I'm so glad they immigrated to the United States and gave us a chance to be born in the country of the "American Dream"  as they call it in Mexico, but I won't deny that Mexico is like the true love that never could be. I love it, but I could never live there and be happy. Anyways, sorry for deviating from the subject, but I like to share all sorts of stories.
Today was extremely windy, I had to hold my skirt down on many occasions, pleats are not a good option on windy days.

The Camel Coat

I'm really enjoying these cold mornings, I think I might just wear a different coat for every day of this week.
This is my vintage camel coat, I bought this one at the thrift store for $7 dollars. The best time to find nice coats at the thrift store is just before the Summer heat ends, it's not cold so not many people are looking for coats and also people are too busy buying things for Halloween so they oversee the coat rack. There, my secret is out, that's how I've managed to find some awesome vintage coats for great prices.
I forgot to take a picture of the brooche, it's not vintage but it's pretty cute, it's a lady's face with a green vintage-looking hat, goes perfect on my coat's collar.
I really liked todays outfit, this skirt is super old, I bought it back when I still bought all my clothes new).
I bought this necklace 2 weeks ago at the Flea Market, it was $3 dollars. It's missing a little pearl but for me it's perfect. I kind of like old things that are rejected by others, I feel like it's my turn to give them a second chance to shine, that's how I feel about vintage overall.

Sunday Best: Lucky 188 and a Crazy Boy

Ladies anybody feel like eating pumpkin pancakes this morning? I do! So my son and I are heading to Ihop before we go to church. Yesterday even after all the running around I squeezed in a trip to the Salvation Army, I was kind of dissapointed since I didn't find anything for me, but I did find an awesome jacket for my son (pictured below) and it's actually wool and leather for $7 bucks! I think I will borrow it once in a while.
On my wish list, wine colored tights.

Mustard and wine

Hello lovely ladies, thank you all for your comments and for being so honest about your body issues I was very moved with the comments you shared. Today was a busy day, I've just come back from a two-hour meeting after school. Today my student-teacher brought my class a small present, it's a cute hand pointer, I had been looking for a nice one to buy and she didn't know it! My students were just dying to use it. I always admire the way little children get excited about the smallest things, like a pointer, and I did too because that was a very nice gesture from my student-teacher. It makes me happy knowing that people like her want to be teachers and that hopefully not as many get into teaching just to pay the bills.
I really like mustard and wine colors together but during the meeting I ate so much that my skirt was so tight I could barely breathe! The shirt was one of my recent finds, the rest is old.
