Polka dotty momma goes thrifting

Hello pretty ladies, I'm back. Today was my son's first piano lessons, yesterday he was reluctant to go but today he couldn't wait to come home and practice on his keyboard. I'm happy that he likes it. It is awfully hot and humid outside, as soon as I came home off  went the shoes and up went the hair.

Outfit details: 100% thrifted
Dress: vintage
Belt: Yves Saint Laurent
Shoes: Aldo
Cameo pin: vintage

While my son was in class I had time to kill so I stopped by 3 thrift stores and bought a couple of things...
I really like the shape of simple elastic waistband skirts.
This skirt is vintage, I'm crazy over the print, it's a bit long and has a small tear near the waistline but I can fix it.
A bit wild print? Yes, but it's a vintage! All I need to do is shorten it a bit and replace the buttons since some are missing. I wish you could see the details around the sleeves but they are hard to see on this picture, when I wear it I'll show you.
My mom used to wear a two-piece like this shirt, she had it in navy blue and white. I love the lace details, I was iffy about the color but I think I can still pull it off.
When I walked by the lingerie rack the lace of this slip caught my eye and I grabbed it quick. It was a bit pricey $3.99 (okay maybe not, I'm just cheap!) but I knew I had to have it!
Nice linen shirt! Looks as thought someone took in on the sides because they didn't serge it but my mom has a serger machine so I will serge it when I get a chance. I love the color, the only thing I don't like about linen is that it wrinkles a lot.
I had seen this vintage skirt 2 weeks ago but I didn't like it much because I'm not a big fan of the 70's but today I changed my mind and it came home with me.
I absolutely love this dress, I almost didn't try it on because the size said XL and I thought it would be too big but when I tried it on it fit perfect.

Another white jacket, this one is cropped and it fits great.
Vintage bag made in Italy, it's made out of very soft leather and it's in great vintage condition.

I love thrifting but I don't have any space left in my closet. I've been thinking about having an Etsy store or online shop, that would keep me busy during the summer and I love going to thrift stores. I've found amazing stuff that doesn't fit me and wished many times I could have a vintage store with very affordable prices but I haven't made up my mind yet. Anyways I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend!

Field Day Captain

Hello pretty ladies I'm back and glad to be laying on my couch. Today was Field Day at school and let me tell you we were busy! We danced, jumped obstacles, ran around the world, bounced on balls, had ice cream, returned to watch the 5th graders dance and then get a free book! Almost all under a 90 degree weather! Phew! I don't think kids ever get tired, they were still jumping around and had the energy to go out to recess. Thank God I was in charge of detention this week, I got to stay in and sit down and enjoy the quietness of my room.
I thrifted this shirt yesterday especially for Field Day.

Sunday best: Lavender and strappy heels

Hello lovely ladies, it's Sunday! My favorite day of the week.I had a great time at church and then my son and I stopped by for some ice cream, I told him we should make Sunday's after church ice cream and thrift store day. He rarely like to go to the thrift store, in fact he hates it but today he was happy he found a Harry Potter book, the book section is his favorite place.
Shoes definitely stole the spotlight.
Another of my flowers, I went all big.
Check out my beautiful purse, I bought it at a garage sale last winter. I think it was $1.50. I didn't like it that much then but today that I took it out I loved it. Sometimes during the winter I'm not too fond of the springy things but it's usually opposite seasons when one can get better prices.
I bought the shoes at DSW. They are amazingly very comfortable, I didn't even have to walk close to the wall (to grab on just in case I got tired). I did take a pair of flats in the car just like a reader recommended.
Details of the jacket and hair.

Lovely day, lovely shirt, lovely shoes

I'm so excited my son is going to start taking music lessons. He's a pretty smart boy (what can I say, I'm his momma) and I know he will like it very much.
Today's outfit was very simple, I've been wanting to wear this skirt, it's not the prettiest but I love the colors.
I'm not so convinced about the shape though, I guess I'm used to full skirts. I don't know why but the outfit reminded me of my aunt in Mexico.

Thrifty Finds 5/14/10

Hi pretty ladies, here I am again, I just came back from the thrift store and I spent less then $9! Yay for me! There's an outlet (yes, a thrift store outlet!) that I love to visit because everything is $1.50 on Fridays. I love going there first thing on Thursdays (when everything is $1.75) but because of work I can't go to get the best of best finds, but that's okay, I still find a few good things on Fridays, and if I look long enough and careful enough I can find awesome finds.
This is what I found:
A girl's peter pan collar uniform shirt! Last week I found another just like it, whoever got rid of her uniforms, thank you little girl! Peter pan collars are the best.
I also found this awesome skirt from New York & Company, the fabric is so soft and flowy and I love flowy. This is my favorite skirt shape, I think they fit my body the best, I'll take them over pencil skirts and pleated skirts any time.
Next I found this awesome orange dress! I love the color (of course orange is my favorite color) but the pattern is cute too. Now this dress has some stains at the bottom and is a little bit too long, so I'm going to chop off the extra length, it's also pretty stinky (smells like dirty thrift store) but nothing a good washing and fabric softener can't fix.
I also found this cute flowery dress, it's a Georgie dress from Wal-Mart, I love the flowers pattern, yes I'm totally nuts for flowery patterns, polka dots and stripes this spring. The dress even has the original belt
An the best of all finds, this awesome crocodile vintage purse! I must say I'm not for killing endangered species but this is a vintage purse, I would not buy a new one though.
Isn't it great?I'm surprised no one bought it! Probably because of the small tear, which I will happily fix.
The inside of the purse is so soft, not stiff at all like most vintage bags.
And it's Hecho en Mexico (made in Mexico) =)
Can't wait until tomorrow, I might try to hit at least one estate sale.

Guess what I found?

Ha! I just mentioned in the post below about the Minnekonta moccasins right? Well I went to the thrift store and guess what I found? Minnekonta boots!
Now, these aren't the ones I wanted and I thought about not buying them but! I'm going to refashion them!

They are not bad looking as they are, I've seen girls pull them off with their outfits but I'm not that confident (plus I don't like them as they are), I will cut them down to be booties and resew the fringe. My mom has professional sewing machines so her machine can sew on leather. I want them to look like the ones on the left:
What a great find!

Kids and Kids

Twenty-three days of school left. After lunch I long for my home, my bed, a nap. Today one of my students was rocking her little socks, she looked so cute I had to take pictures. She is so adorable and I just love her to pieces.
Aren't her socks just awesome? They are Hello Kitty and her shoes were multicolor too.
Today we walked (my class and I) across the street, yesterday when we did our nature walk  we heard goats and sure enough in the house across the school they have two little kids (did you know that's what baby goats are called?) So there they were "baaaing" as my children watched in excitement, but not only that, they had 2 dogs about the same size of the kids (baby goats). They were pretty cute kids(both goats and children hehe).

It's raining cats and dogs

It's raining a lot today and of all days I forgot to wear my boots. I took this picture before it started raining hard,
Today I got a nice surprise in my school's mailbox, a big bar of chocolate! I don't know who it was from but I was so happy, I had been craving chocolate since the morning. I love chocolate so much I could eat it all day long but I can't. I ate half the chocolate bar though =P it had nuts which are my favorite.
Today's outfit:
Dress: Vintage shortened by me
Shoes: Gap
Lilly pod vintage pin: thrifted
Top worn as cardi: Liz Claiborne
Belt: F21
I didn't feel like going to the gym today, but I really wanted to go for a walk so I went to my favorite park.
Hope everyone had a blessed day!
