Thrifty refashioning

Today I stayed home like the doctor recommended, I am feeling a lot better I could have gone to work but last time I did I went back to feeling sick so I think it was a good idea to stay home, besides we have long, boring faculty meetings Mondays (smiled). I fixed this shirt, I just added the shirring on the side of the arms you can hardly tell on the pictures.
blah!
better
Next was this dress, I really like the way it came out. I love the floral print but the collar was awfully outdated and it needed a little bit more to bring out it's true beauty. So I redid the collar and added the black velvet ribbon which I just pinned in the back. I'm really looking forward to wearing it.
                                                                  shapeless and boring
pretty!
And last was this t-shirt, I didn't do anything to it I just pinned a bow made out of left over lace to it.
And I added the crochet detail to this shirt from an old shirt I had.
Hope everyone had a great day at work! (OK no need to be ironic hehe)
Have a blessed day!

Sunny with a high chance of allergies

I woke up this morning only to realize that I have a horrible sinus headache and I can barely breathe from the allergies. And to make it all worst it's a wonderful sunny day, I wish I could step in outside and go for a jog but just to bend to wash my face my whole head hurts. So I think I'll stay in bed for as long as I can and rest. Okay I will admit it, yesterday I went to the thrift store and bought a shirt and red mocs ($1.50 each) I bought it because I loved the collar and I'm planning to do a small refashion with it.
Detail of the collar...

I love, love, love the collar yes I do. I will take it off and then put in to a nicer fabric tee or I can just wear it as a necklace which is what I did with this one...
I sewed the back lining by hand because the threads from the beads were visible.

I thought about inserting this collar to another shirt but it's so exquisite I was afraid it would be very hard to clean the garment so I just added the ribbon on the ends and now I can tie it and wear it with different outfits. I took it off from a dress I thrifted a couple of months ago seen here.

The dress didn't fit me and I didn't care about the dress all I saw was the collar it's just amazing and every sequin was handsawn, it's also kind of heavy. I still don't know what I will do with the white shirt collar above, I might decide to make it into a necklace.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Blessings!

Treasures for my heart

Today I got a sweet note from a 1st grader that was my student last year. I love that my students remember me because everyone of them has a special place in my heart and my main goal at work is that I make a difference in  my student's lives and that I'll be remembered by them as I dearly remember my 1st grade teacher who was awesome to me.
My student wrote me a beautiful card that says:
"Mrs. Last name I know that you had an accident but you are nice and beautiful. You always come clean and I like your clothes and your dresses and your shoes and you also give prizes. I am so so so so so so happy and I wish I could stay in your class because we learned a,e,i,o,u, and I love to study."
Those are the little notes I love to get and I keep them for good memories.
I believe teaching kindergarten is my true calling in life. I am so blessed to do what I love most.

Denim, kaki and blue

Kids say the darnest things. Today while we were talking about things that begin with the letter Gg (big important discussion) I gave the hint that one boy wears this on his hair all the time, I was expecting "gel" but instead he raised his hand happily and answered "gorilla's boogers" I tried not to laugh because he was serious, I guess his parents call it that. Children are so cute at that age, today one of my students insisted on buying me an ice cream (how sweet) after much insistence I obliged myself to chocolate covered ice cream cone with peanuts (yum!).

Hey there Curly

After having lunch with my family we came home, I went to the thrift store just to look around, I wasn't planning on buying anything and I didn't (I'm getting good at this). I haven't found anything that I really, really, really love which is good because I'm being more selective on the things I buy. I don't need to buy something every time I go to a store, I really don't.
This is a 70's dress I bought a long time ago, it's see through but I'm wearing a slip under and that fixed the problem perfectly...well almost.
See? My dress kept sliding up so my slip was showing and I didn't even know, but it looks cute anyways.
It's was raining a lot so I wore my raincoat I thrifted a few months ago and my hunters. There's my slip again, I had to keep pulling the dress down every few minutes.
I almost got rid of the dress but I'm glad I didn't cause I really like the color and the print and the shirring at the waist.

Pink and kaki

Today I went to the doctor and I have no broken bones, nothing serious just some strain so he worked on my shoulder "massaging" it but it felt more like torturing it, it hurt really bad,he was funny and cute, he told me not to be such a wuss because before he even touched me I was already making faces, yes I admit it I was being a wimp but when his bony fingers poked every inch of my swollen shoulder it really hurt, I think I even worked out a sweat and tried hard to hold in the tears hehe. My shoulder felt much better after being tortured though, I have to go back on Friday. Today I took the day off to rest and I'm here laying down with an ice pack on my shoulder. Did I mention my doctor is handsome? well that's an extra.

This is what I wore to my doctor's appointment, my doctor put some tape on my shoulder, I chose pink to match my outfit. =)
I really love this skirt, I bought it at the local Goodwill on their 50% off day so it was $3.99, it came with the original price tag that said $138! Good deal huh?

Feeling better now

Good day everyone! I'm feeling all sore but tomorrow I'm going to the doctor to make sure that everything was left in it's place hehe. My shoulder has been bothering me a lot so I already made an appointment. I feel humbled by all that happened with the accident, when I wrote to my cousin she told me how a lady she knows has just recently lost her 2 boys they died in an accident, my heart goes out to those mothers who lose their children. Today as I drove back home my son was trying to talk to me but I was still thinking about the car and he is so awesome sometimes it blows my mind. He said to me "don't be worried mami my aunt said it's just a car and for God it's just a car too, you're more important to Him, it's going to be okay."
And he's totally right! So I'm in a much better mood because my baby is so awesome, of course he does leave his clothes everywhere and he is messy and careless when he eats hehe but he's still amazing.

At work my friends were so nice everyone was very caring and even my students were so good. I really love my job, love all my students and the school I work at. Sure nothing is perfect, but I'm very grateful for what I have.

And also I wanted to thank everyone who has left a kind comment, thank you all so much, I really appreciate all the kind words that you take the time to post.

Okay now for today's outfit, I had to wear the scarf to cover the bruises from the seat belt, it's not that bad but they looked like hickies (they look horrible to me but some people seem to like them).
Outfit details: 100% thrifted
Chambray shirt: Liz Claiborne

I really liked how this outfit looked after all. I had to wear the cushion pump socks because these shoes hurt my toes so bad without them. This amazing cameo pin opens up and I put a picture of my son.
And this is a vintage, leather, satchel bag I thrifted this weekend, I don't love the color but for now it will work.

I hope everyone has a blessed day!

Sunday best: Vintage black bolero

Everyday miracles happen without realizing it. Waking up everyday is a miracle. Having loved ones healthy and alive is a miracle. Sometimes I get carried away with non-important things in life and forget to give thanks.

In love with dragons...and polka dots.

My son and I went to the movies tonight and saw How to train your dragon, I loved the movie! It's a great family movie we really enjoyed it and since we didn't get to see it 3D because we missed the last 3D show, tomorrow we are going to see it again! But this time it will be 3D. I'm also planning to take my son to the Renaissance Fair but we will see, either that or the Science Museum which we haven't been to in a while.
Today's outfit was inspired by the 50's, nothing except the pin is vintage.
My shoes have polka dots! =)

Happy Easter everyone!

Today I didn't have a Sunday outfit =( My son got sick this morning with stomach ache, diarrhea and vomit so we didn't go to church. This outfit is one I wore a few months ago, love everything about it, I felt like a million bucks that day but my outfit would probably be less than $50 the shoes being the most expensive thing since I bought those at DSW. The rest was thrifted.
Now for today's outfit, I love my red polka dot skirt, and I was happy to see that the Waves had one similar(but hers has stars). I always like to see how other girls style their clothes and she gave me an idea on how to wear my favorite polka dot skirt.
The first times I wore my skirt I paired it with a white shirt and a black cardigan, can you imagine how I looked? Minnie mouse!
In fact I was going to name this post "How not to look like Minnie Mouse with you red polka dot skirt".
