Sunday best: Tartan

Today's outfit is very different. I still have the grunge in me, the 90's were my teen years which I spent watching "My So Called Life" anyone remember? Today is my mom's birthday so I'm spending the day with her and taking her out to lunch. I thrifted the skirt during the summer, it's made of rayon and I immediately thought about shortening it, but I haven't made the time to refashion the small pile of clothes so I decided to pin it instead to give it an uneven look. I purposedly made the pins show since they go so well with the tartan print.
Outfit Details:
Jacket: Gap/thrifted
Tank top: Kohls (old)
Skirt: Chaussport/ thrifted & re-styled by me
Boots: DSW (old)
Sweater clip: vintage

Do I remember My So Called Life? How could I forget. I still secretly hope that Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano will work it out. The angsty for no reason 13 year old in me ponders that on a regular basis.

You're totally talking my language! As a fellow 90s teen, I'm loving it! (My sister, who is 10 years younger than I am, recently looked at my double pierced ears and exclaimed," That's so 90s, Vanessa!" I didn't really get it until I asked around to all my friends who are my age and they also had 2 piercings in each ear. Anyway, what I really meant to say was: Love the pinned skirt. It reads like a funky/grungy kilt and as a person with Scottish heritage I always appreciate a beautiful plaid!

I was just talking about My So-Called Life with some friends yesterday! I wasn't allowed to watch it (or anything on MTV), but I used to sneak it; I was a rebellious child.

The way you pinned up that skirt is so striking and beautiful. I love it! ¡Felicidades a tu mamá!

I absolutely adore this! It has a McQueen feel withthe tartan and asymmetrical hem - absolutely fantastic!

I've definitely pulled that trick before - such a fun way to shorten a hem in a pinch!
Happy birthday mom, hope you two had a great day!

I am loving the lady-like sweater clip with the denim jacket, that's super cute and I've never seen anyone do that before. It adds the perfect feminine touch to this tough girl outfit :)

I love this skirt and the way that you pinned it everywhere, it looks like a Luna Luz dress...
